We simply have too many things scheduled for Wednesdays right now: Occupational therapy in the morning (up in Winchester), then back home, then a trip into town (5 miles the opposite direction) for going to the park for my boys' only regular chance to see friends each week, then the 15 mile + drive up to soccer at 5:30. I don't feel like I can give up any of the other things, so soccer will have to be it for now since late afternoon is a time Samuel isn't used to doing things right now. We'll try this differently in the future..
Now for the Breakfast Challenge. Samuel likes to keep requesting additional food as he finishes breakfast, "Mom, can I have more cereal?" A fit follows if he doesn't get an affirmative answer. My attempt at a solution has been to make a menu on which he checks off his select
ions. A "second course" is included. It has been quite helpful so far, but was a bit messy because it was done in dry erase marker on a piece of laminated paper.I just made a laminated menu. We'll try it for the first time this morning. I'll let you know how it goes.
This next photo is the laminated page from which he'll make his selections for the "menu." The next photo is where I'll store all the "icons" I have made. Yes, we eat lots of Malto Meal Cereal! I try to save the "sweeter" cereals for snack times rather than serving them for breakfast.

WOW that has to be hard. I can't imagine myself as short order cook with my six kids at 5 in the morning, each making a different request.
OK that hurts my head to think about. But you have to do what works for your family. You'll have to update in a few weeks and we can see if this system works for you. Anytime you get fewer meltdowns, it might just be worth the extra hassle. I know that to be the case fer sure!!

Let me clarify here, the "first course" on Samuel's menu is filled in by me. I shouldn't have worded it the way that I did, makes it look like he gets to choose that. Most mornings we have cereal. On the mornings I make something else I will fill that in for the "first course" and then he chooses something for the second course, something for "fruit" and something for "drink". I limit the choices for each thing by putting icons on the "Samuel's Choices" page. My goodness, there's no way I'd let him choose from all those icons!
About the craziest thing is having each of my four kids choosing from 3 different kinds of cereal. There are 3 or 4 mornings each week that I have a helper for Samuel here in the morning too, that makes things a bit easier for me.
The menu for Samuel worked beautifully this morning.
OK, that sounds a little less crazy. I really thought you might as well have just opened a restaurant LOL!
What a cool idea!!!!! Something that works for LAA and Samuel! Way to go!!!!!
I can relate to the short order cooking the food, i do that with my kids it is difficult sometimes, i hope all is going well for you and the family!
