Preparing for Vacation

What a busy busy day I had yesterday. One of those days where you start on a "project" and then steer off into about 3 or 4 other projects from that one you started on. Not only do I have a vacation to get ready for but we have friends who are going to stay in our house so I have to leave things in nice condition for them!

As I was busy the boys all saw this as freedom to play on electronic devices all day.. Playstation and the computers. They weren't so interested in watching television but just as well because Dad had that on watching some kind of auto racing!

Speaking of Dad, we celebrated Father's Day by all going to Summit Point, West Virginia (a 30 minute drive from here) to see an SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) race. My husband participated in that club up in NY before we were married. Now he participates in SVRA. I don't know the exact words for it, but it has to do with Vintage Sportscars. He drives a 1969 Datsun. We left soon after we all went to church, walked around a bit, and then sat at a curve in the track while we ate a picnic lunch and watched a race. The noise of the cars did not seem to bother Samuel. We were on our way home shortly after noon. I'm glad because it was a hot day!

I was able to sift through just about all of Samuel's school work. It all gets sent home throughout the year and this past year I saved EVERYTHING. I want to look through it all this summer and see what progress he made in his subjects. I have everything filed by subject so after our vacation I will start looking at it. Our in-home helper will also be able to use the work done to come up with some review work for Samuel.

Today is shaping up pretty much like yesterday, except that I am trying to fit in some Math, Spelling, and English work for my oldest son. I am so thankful on a morning like this that I have someone to help me with Samuel! He wasn't all that eager to do his work at first, but he ended up doing pretty good. The theme for his work this week is "at the beach" so that is helping him get into the spirit of our vacation.

MOst of my days seem to veeroff into 3 or 4 different directions...and each of those veers ff into different directions... not sure if I can blame it on 3 ASD boys or just my own Asperger's tendencies...

My husband does a little Solo 2 racing events. I see a lot of SCCA stickers there, not sure is the SOLO events are part of the SCCA though. I don't think so, not sure. His good friend does some SCAA racing, but not as much as before he had kids.

Enjoy your vacation.

In truth, my life seems to run that way (off on many tangents) all the time. With Samuel home I seem to think that I should have this PERFECTLY organized and regimented routine going. I don't know why I do that to myself.. it just causes me undue stress. Just about anyone I know who stays sane homeschooling (or having the kids home for an extended period like vacations) does so with an underlying philosophy of being flexible and "going with the flow"!

I'll have to ask my husband about Solo racing. I've never heard of it before this. My husband is heading to Cleveland today to pick up yet another car! This time it's a Camaro that he'll drive on the street (as fast as he can I bet!). Let's see... between go-karts and cars we're up to 8 vehicles! So far we don't have to park any on the lawn but we're quickly getting to that point! Oh, after he picks up the car today he's towing it to Rochester NY for a friend to work on.. then it's back down to VA . He thinks he'll be home some time this evening!!!!!

I try to get a routine going... and it constantly falls apart. I'm not trying for a "we should do this now" but a "we need to get this done sometime today".

Like today... off to finish emptying the dishwasher and then I need to clean. The little one is going to play www.starfall.com on the computer while I do that.

I always plan to do so much but usually feel thankful that I managed to feed the dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer.

We're busy this summer, but it's different because they are older. Way easier.

I saw you kept all the papers. You must be the most organized person in the world. I'd have to move to a new house if I kept every thing!

Wow-good for you!

As far as being organized it's quite the opposite! I'm quite the pack rat. I have the hardest time parting with anything before I have analyzed to the nth degree whether or not I may need it at some point in the future. With the schoolwork, however, I managed to set up a hanging file box with each subject and a few IEP goals that I can easily file the work into. Sometimes I let it pile up a while before I filed it though. Now, to be effective, I need to look at the work and DO something with the information!
